Putting fabrics and notions together- sewing supplies for beginners

Yesterday I mentioned that I like to put all my items together so that when I am ready to start a project I don't have to check to see if I have everything. All the sewing supplies needed for beginners to start a stash. These days it is harder and harder to find local stores that carry threads, zippers and other sewing notions. Find your inspiration, then put it all together. I just received this amazing washed heavy linen in tobacco color and I want to make pants. I chose McCall's 8630, but I probably won't do belt loops since I never wear belts. I was going to use a jean zipper, but I opted for a plastic zipper since they are easier to adjust in length and a little easier to zip. We have a selection of buckle slides and we have one that is a soft bronze that gives great contrast especially with the brown topstitch thread I matched it to. I am usually busy at the store 6 days a week, so who knows when I will have time to do it, so it's all together in a bag waiting for me. I took home the linen last night and pre-washed so that I could add it to the bag today. I always pre-wash since you never know how much it will shrink and how the texture will change. I make it a habit to wash everything before I put it in the bag, so I know I am ready to go whenever I do get to the project. I usually buy a little more than required for the shrinking, maybe 1/8 yd.
